ACOTAR/ACOMAF Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Thursday, 29 September 2016
Guess what? I'm back at it again with the bad makeup tutorials. Sorry but if you didn't like the first one, feel free to click off this one. I won't be offended. Promise.

Now onto the real stuff.

I love the ACOTAR trilogy, and when I polled you all on Twitter, the majority said they wanted to see a makeup tutorial inspired by it.

Here are the covers.

And here's what your face will look like when you're done.

Just kidding. You can see what it'll look like when we're done.

What you'll need is a glitter pale pink eyeshadow, a red eyeshadow, a white eyeshadow, a dark blue glittery eyeshadow, a glittery black eyeshadow, a glittery silver eyeshadow, black eyeliner, green eyeliner, mascara, blush, highlighter, red lipstick, a random lipstick, lipgloss of any colour that you want, foundation, concealer, and primer (optional).

Let's begin!

For the ACOTAR Side:

1) Start off with foundation, and concealer. And add primer to your eyes if you want.

Stunning.

2) Pick which side is your ACOTAR side and put that pink glittery eyeshadow all over that lid.

3) Then put the red eyeshadow in your crease.

4) And use white eyeshadow to highlight your brow bone.

5) Put on the black eyeliner the way you normally do.

6) Put the green eyeliner on top of the black liner. This is just for aesthetic purposes.

7) Apply blush and highlight wherever you usually put them. Avoid contour because you want to look like you have fuller cheeks. Only do the one half of your face.

8) Now for the fun part. Draw thorns and roses wherever you want on your face because you can. (Or something that resembles flowers because lol I can't draw.)

9) Apply red lipstick to half of your lips. Put lipgloss overtop of it.

And now you're done this half.

For the ACOMAF Side:

Because we all love Rhys and want to live in the Night Court (I'm still waiting for Rhys to winnow in and take me there), this side is inspired by stars and a holiday I can't mention because of spoilers.

1) Put that blue glittery eyeshadow all over your lid.

2) Apply the black glittery eyeshadow in your crease.

(Because glitters are like tiny stars and I just want them all over my eyelids.)

3) Apply silver glittery eyeshadow to the center of the lid.

4) Apply white eyeshadow to the brow bone and inner corner.

5) Put on some black eyeliner.

6) Once it's dry (very important that it's dry), lightly pat some of the blue eyeshadow over it to tint it that colour.

7) Draw stars around your eye with black eyeliner. Don't worry if they're not perfect.

8) Remember that tint thing I just mentioned? Take that same dark blue glittery eyeshadow and pat it over the stars. It's okay to be a bit messy because you want to connect them as well to create a ring of stars.

9) Pat some of the silver glittery eyeshadow to the center of each star to make it shine even more.

10) Highlight and contour your face using the silver glittery eyeshadow as highlighter and the black glittery eyeshadow as contour. (Remember that glitter = stars and the more stars on your face, the easier it'll be for Rhys to see you when he looks into the night sky because you'll shine so bright.)

11) Use some of that random lipstick on the second half of your lips. Then take the black glittery eyeshadow and pat it on top of that because you can. (Or you can use black lipstick.)

12) Apply mascara to both of your eyes. (Because having powder in your lashes is the worst.)

And now your makeup look is complete!!!

Hope you liked this makeup tutorial because I know it's the most unhelpful thing ever and no one's ever actually going to try to recreate this look. Whatever. Halloween (aka my favourite holiday) is coming up soon so no one can say they don't have a costume because you can just do this to your face and you'll be good to go.

Seriously though, I hope you liked this tutorial and I will see you all next time when I actually figure out how to make a wearable tutorial that actually looks nice.

Stealing Snow Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Friday, 23 September 2016
I'm doing this because I 1) love makeup and 2) love books. Also, I saw Roshani do it for her books (The Star-Touched Queen and The Crown of Wishes) and I thought I could do them for other books. (Sorry that my makeup skills are no where near where hers are. I'm basic and usually stick to eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick.)

So I thought I would do Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige first because that cover is stunning and I wanted to put it on my face.

Look at its beauty.

What you'll need is your fav concealer, foundation, etc. (Your basic skin imperfection routine), a glittery silver eyeshadow, a matte dark purple eyeshadow, a glittery dark blue eyeshadow, a white eyeshadow, highlighter, blush, any light pink lipstick, and grey eyeliner (or black if you prefer it).

Step One:
Put on foundation, concealer, and really whatever it is you usually do before you put on the fun stuff.

Step Two:
Fill in your brows however you normally do. (I don't fill in my brows and if you're like me, you can skip this step.)

Step Three:
Eyeshadow time. Yay. Take your glittery silver shadow and put it all over your lid because snow. (But we don't want it to look like basic snow so we're going to use glitter.)

Step Four:
Take that dark purple shade and put it in your crease. Then blend. (I'm so great at explaining things. Aren't you just going to have such an easy time replicating this later?)

Step Five:
Take that dark blue glittery eyeshadow and put it in the outer corner of your eye. (And then blend.)

Step Six:
Use the white eyeshadow to highlight your brow bone. Also put it in the inner corner of your eye.

Step Seven:
Apply the grey eyeliner to your eyes however you usually apply your eyeliner. (Tip: If you're using liquid liner, draw a line for your wing first, draw another line from the tip of your wing to the centre of your eye, fill that in, and then draw a line from the inner corner to the center of your eye and connect it all.)

Step Eight:
Apply mascara [or don't if you have nice lashes (so not me)].

Step Nine:
Highlight the tops of your cheeks, the  center of your forehead, the center of your chin, your Cupid's bow, and the tip of your nose. Then apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. You can also contour your face if you want to.

Step Ten:
Apply the pink lipstick to your lips however you usually do it.

Step Eleven (and my favourite):
Apply a little bit of that silver eyeshadow to the center of your lips to make them extra snowy.

And that's it. You see, super easy stuff.

Don't I look pretty? (Oh, the sarcasm.)

I hope you enjoyed me trying to do my makeup. As you may have noticed, I suck at this. (But at least I tried which is more than the haters can say.)

TeensRead Preview Winter/Spring 2017 Recap

Sunday, 11 September 2016
So I usually don't do recaps because 1) other people do them and their's are way better and 2) I don't always remember enough details about the event to fill up a proper blog post, so it would be boring. I'm trying something new today because this was a really cool event and I want to share with you all some upcoming titles I'm excited for.

Before I begin, I'd like to thank Raincoast for inviting me to this event and to Vanessa and Jen for hosting it! I had loads of fun and I hope I can make it to the next TeensRead preview!

Now on to the actual event...

For those of you who didn't see the #TeensReadFeed hashtag on Twitter yesterday or didn't know what it was for, twice a year, Raincoast (a Canadian distributor) hosts an event where they gather a bunch or bloggers, and tell them about plenty of great upcoming reads.

(Photo credit to Vanessa on Twitter. And yes, that's me in the back.)

And now onto the part where Mary E. Pearson (yes, that Mary E. Pearson) came to talk to us.

Here's basically everything I can remember (I suck at this. Sorry.):
  • She's reading a secret book that she's really enjoying.
  • She loved Flashfall by Jenny Moyer (which comes out this fall).
  • She also really enjoyed The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia (another fall release).
  • She was inspired by Dr. Seuss, which she reckons is likely why she created a new language for The Kiss of Deception trilogy.
I hope you discovered some new books you're now excited for. Thanks again to everyone at Raincoast, Vanessa, and Jen for inviting me to the event and hosting it! I had a great time!
